Abstract

Anger in traffic and driving styles are two of the most studied topics in the psychology of transportation in the last two decades. It has been observed that the level of aggressiveness registered by the population of drivers increases with each passing decade, especially in countries like Romania where traffic conditions are low. This increase is explained by various factors which vary from social factors to personal factors (the driver’s personal characteristics). In this study the objective is represented by the need to identify the influence that driving styles and type of car have over the level of aggressive driving behavior. This study has a total of 68 participants, 43 males and 25 females, with ages ranging from 20 to 56 years of age. Some examples of the type of cars presented in this study are Dacia, Renault, Mercedes, Ford, etc. To measure aggressive driving behavior the test AVIS was used and as for driving styles the choice of the Driving Styles Questionnaire was more than adequate. The results indicate that there is an influence of driving styles over the level of aggressive driving behavior but that the type of car driven is irrelevant for this sample.
